Sherry Gordy, mother, grandmother, philanthropist, and self-made entrepreneur, was born on May 23rd in Detroit, Michigan. She is the daughter of legendary music mogul Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records. For the majority of her life, she was raised in Southern California, where Motown relocated after its vast expansion. Despite growing up in a privileged family, Sherry learned the importance of paving her own path for success. She epitomizes hard work ethics and integrity, with long days and a busy schedule. Sherry started her first part-time job during high school, working for an annuity company in Marina Del Rey, California. After high school, she studied business administration in college and severed an apprenticeship at Motown, shadowing her father.  Sherry also took acting classes at the Estelle Harmon Academy in Hollywood, California. After recognizing the importance of making virtuous and clever lifestyle choices, she would ultimately gravitate to entrepreneurship. When Sherry received her real estate brokerage license, she became a strong businesswoman. The complexity of the real estate business led her to a career managing a few well known mortgage banking companies. She then founded her own real estate and mortgage company. Sherry was fiercely determined to learn different aspects of the business world, and still determined to continue her mission of self-sufficiency, she began her first foray into the entertainment industry, creating Tickle Me Tuesdays Comedy Jam Dinner Show, at The Blue Note Showroom on the Las Vegas Strip. The show welcomed comedians from across the nation, who had been featured on stage on BET's Comic View, Def Comedy Jam, and more. Sherry was introduced to philanthropy though her involvement in the Berry Gordy Family Foundation, where she recommended grants, conducted field audits, and served as a director. Inspired by her father’s philanthropic accomplishments, she created her own Sherry Jackson foundation in 2004. Her mission is to enhance the educational success, employment opportunities, and the emotional health of underprivileged youth and young adults, who face economic, social, and emotional challenges. On August 1, 2013 Sherry debuted her Motown Inspired "Take The Stage", which showcased the talent of local and well renowned artists, singers, dancers, poets, comics, magicians, musicians, and veteran performers. The show ran for three full years inside the Club Tequila Showroom at the Fiesta Rancho Casino Hotel in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Sherry also created a spin-off show called Stage 2 Stage, which ran concurrently across the nation. Stage 2 Stage was a national talent competition judged by industry professionals, where the winner received round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and a showcase on her Las Vegas stage. During 2014-2015, she received numerous awards, certificates of merit, and commendations, including two Sherry Gordy days in Las Vegas, as well as Best Showroom Production. While juggling these two popular shows, Sherry assisted in producing and promoting The Las Vegas Soul Festival 2014 at the UNLV Thomas & Mack Arena. Featured artists included Cameo, Next, Con Funk Shun, Lenny Williams, and many more to benefit the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.
In early August of 2016, she closed the show to care for her ailing mother. Shortly after, her core team was invited to bring the show to Australia, which received high acclaim. In addition to all of her ongoing projects, in December, 2018 Sherry joined the development team for The Motown Museum Expansion. Sherry Gordy is always working on new innovative endeavors, and will be bringing more exciting entertainment your way soon.
